Here are the Dolch word lists, the 220 most common words and 95 additional nouns in children's reading books, in alphabetical order. Dolch words, or sight words, provide an excellent base for reading at an early age. They are often called sight words because some of them can't be sounded out, and need to be learned by sight.

Note that all the Dolch words can be taught before children finish the first grade in school. Words in the second and third grade lists are more common in books for those age groups, but they do appear in books for earlier grades, just less frequently.

Mouse Skill Activities


Baby Rose's Eyes - Move the mouse pointer around the screen and watch Baby Rose's eyes follow it.
Bugs - Practice clicking on a square. Match the bug pictures.
Hatch and Match - Practice clicking on eggs and find the two pictures and sounds that match. A different sound effect is used with each dragon.
HeadSprouts Mousing Around Program - Listen to oral directions on how a mouse works and practice each skill.

Click and Drag - Move the animals by clicking and dragging them from place to place (spatial concepts)
Concentration - Large boxes to click on. Three pairs to make it easy for young children. The hard level has six pairs.

Counting Concepts:
Counting - Find objects in the pond by moving your mouse over them. After all are found, audio voice counts aloud the number of animals found. Audio directions also allow this to become an independent activity for children. No counting skills are required from the students. An introduction to counting one-to-one.
Counting - Mouse skills needed to drag box car. Audio counts box cars as they are added. Once there are 10 cars, student selects a number and a one-to-one activity is displayed.
